A Haitian Republican Congresswoman just slammed Trump for his “shithole countries” comment

President Trump has been under attack all day since his comments on immigration from “shithole countries” started spreading across the media. Unable to label his racist remarks as “fake news,” Trump has been forced to own the comments and take the heat for them.

One of the most powerful responses came from a member of his own party, Representative Mia Love (R-UT), a rare black Republican and one whose ancestry comes from Haiti, one of the very countries that Trump maligned with his unfathomable slander.

Rep. Love called on Trump to apologize to the people whom he “wantonly maligned” and said the president’s comments were “unkind, divisive, elitist and fly in the face of our nation’s values.”

“My parents came from one of those countries, took an oath of allegiance to it, and took on the responsibilities of everything that being a citizen comes with,” she said in a statement.

“The President must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned,” Love said.

The White House did not deny Trumps’ comments, opting instead to issue the following statement:

“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people.”
