White House just bragged about the “sacrifices” Trump kids have made for their country

When faced with the rotting morass of corruption that is the Trump administration, it’s often easy to overlook the lesser evils, the transgressions that would be glaring if it weren’t for the constant barrage of mindnumbing breaches of the public trust that inundate the public discourse. The rank nepotism on display in the Trump government is one such breakdown that would sink any other presidency.

Donald’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is a senior advisor in charge of peace in the Middle East, ending the opioid crisis, and streamlining government, responsibilities for which he is uniquely unqualified. Ivanka is also a presidential advisor simply because she shares Donald’s DNA. The same goes for Eric and Donald Trump Jr., who officially aren’t part of the administration and are responsible for running the Trump Organization, but who in reality serve as the biggest cheerleaders for their father’s regressive political agenda.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reports that White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley told the press pool on Air Force One that former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon’s unflattering comments about Ivanka and Donald Jr. were “repugnant” and “grotesque.”

Gidley claims that the president’s children are “serving the nation, sacrificing in their service.” The infantilizing nature of the comments has become a common tactic for the White House. When Trump’s children do something wrong, they’re presented as political neophytes and “children” despite the fact that they’re fully grown, morally culpable adults. When it’s convenient for them to appear competent, they’re painted as successful businesspeople.

When pressed to provide an example of something that Jared and Kushner have sacrificed, Gidley says they gave up their “personal lives.” The comment would be laughable if it weren’t so blatantly disrespectful to the men and women who actually sacrifice for their country. Trump and his ilk have given up nothing, and are rank opportunists, not patriots.

Jared and Ivanka, if they manage to avoid indictment will be free to return to their unearned lives of luxury after Trump’s presidency ends. Their “sacrifices” are nonexistent, but the damage they’re doing to this country will last for generations.
