As a new week rolls around, another layer is removed from the Matryoshka doll that is the Trump-Russia investigation.
Last week saw the bombshell accusation, leveled by erstwhile White House Chief Strategist and newly-minted Trump enemy, Steve Bannon, that there was “zero chance” Donald Trump Jr. didn’t bring the Russian surrogates, including attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya, up to meet his father after the now-infamous Trump Tower meeting.
The meeting was also attended by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and now-indicted former campaign manager Paul Manafort. The express purpose of the meeting was for the Trump team to obtain dirt Hillary Clinton, and the Trump team previously insisted that Donald Trump himself not only didn’t attend the meeting but was unaware of it.

Now, another prominent name has been implicated in the underhanded incident. Veselnitskaya now claims she may have briefly spoken with Trump’s favored daughter Ivanka. The Russian attorney told NBC News that on her way out of Trump Tower she encountered a blonde woman who she believes was Ivanka Trump. Another source confirmed that it was indeed Ivanka.
The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday special counsel Robert Mueller is interested in the conversation between Ivanka and the Russians as part of his ongoing investigation into possible collusion. While early reports state that the interaction may have simply been an exchange of pleasantries, Mueller is making sure nothing is overlooked in his efforts to deliver the full, unvarnished truth to the American people.
It’s telling that Ivanka herself has never mentioned meeting Veselnitskaya, despite the obvious public interest in any interactions between the Trumps and Russian agents. Had she nothing to hide, one would presume she would be forthcoming about every possible point of interest. Instead, she’s failed to so much as mention the conversation. One can’t help but wonder what else she’s failed to mention.
