Mitch McConnell just took to Twitter to dance on Steve Bannon’s grave

A central contention within the chaotic Trump White House has always been between the populists catered to by Steven Bannon’s Breitbart News and the establishment Republicans led by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Bannon and McConnell, in particular, have espoused a supreme dislike for each other at numerous points in the past.

The rivalry reached a fever pitch in the lead-up to the December Alabama special election in which Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s former Senate seat was up for grab. McConnell supported the establishment Republican Luther Strange in the primary, while Bannon marshaled his support behind soon-to-be-outed pedophile Roy Moore.

Moore won the primary then went on to lose the race to Democrat Doug Jones, ceding an important Senate seat to the opposition party and thinning the Republican’s margin of control in Congress.

Today’s sudden outbreak of a civil war between the Trump camp and Steve Bannon has swept through Capitol Hill like wildfire, and clearly, McConnell and his team are paying close attention.

McConnell — or more likely the person managing his social media campaign — tweeted out a gleeful GIF of the Senate Majority Leader giving his creepy trademark smirk shortly after the Bannon bombshells dropped and Trump and his cohorts launched a counterattack.

It appears he’s more than pleased that a rift has opened between the erstwhile White House Chief Strategist and the Republican president.

It’s worth noting that there are no heroes in this Republican conflict. Bannon is an odious hatemonger, Trump is an ignorant, incompetent conman and Mitch McConnell is a corporate stooge who stole a rightful Supreme Court appointment from President Obama and repeatedly enabled Trump’s worse impulses.

All of these unpatriotic, infighting cowards need to be ousted from their positions of power and Democrats need to be swept into office to clean up the massive mess they’ve made.
