Bush’s speechwriter just summarized Republicans in 2017 with his most viral tweet ever

Conservative author and speechwriter to former President George W. Bush, David Frum took to Twitter today to point out Republican hypocrisy in a viral tweet.

The “pizzagate” conspiracy theory suggested that Hillary Clinton’s campaign was involved with a secret pedophilia ring beneath a pizza restaurant in Washington, D.C. called Comet Pizza. The rumor, which began on websites 4chan and Reddit, known for fostering absurd pranks, culminated into an armed man driving to the restaurant, firing his assault rifle inside, and getting arrested.

“Pizzagate,” for its part, was perpetuated by far-right conservatives who were convinced that a pedophilia ring run by the Clinton campaign could exist in the basement of a pizza place with no basement. The lie was repeated so much that it’s a small wonder that no one was actually killed at the hands of the man who showed up to “self-investigate.”

However, in an ironic twist of events, conservatives also came out en masse in support of Alabama Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, Roy Moore, who was accused by a slew of women of engaging in sexual misconduct while they were between the ages of 14- and 18-years-old. Moore, at the time, was a District Attorney in his 30s. The bombshell report, published in The Washington Post, was corroborated by over 30 sources.

That did not stop many Republicans and conservatives from supporting the accused child molester. Even Trump, in a move as shameful as it is unsurprising, endorsed the failed Republican Senate candidate.

It seems that GOP morality only applies when it’s politically convenient. Even Republicans are getting tired of the glaring double standard.
