Bill Maher just found the hilarious silver lining of Christmas under Trump

Bill Maher took to Twitter today to wish everyone a happy holiday season and, of course, poke fun at the ever-tumultuous Trump presidency.

Of course, Maher is referring to the fact that the United States still exists despite, for example, the looming threat of nuclear war. Trump has spent the duration of his short but turbulent presidency provoking North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, even going so far as to refer to the supreme leader as “Rocket Man.”

Ironically enough, the President shares many of the same qualities that he criticizes with Kim Jong-un, including his ultranationalist rhetoric, an obsession with the nuclear weapons, and a proclivity to launch impulsive attacks on those whom he views as his “enemies.”

The President’s unhinged rhetoric has prompted a slew of legislation aimed at preventing him from unilaterally taking any pre-emptive military action against North Korea that would drag the U.S. into an unnecessary war.

“As a veteran of the Korean war, I am ashamed that our commander-in-chief is conducting himself in a reckless manner that endangers our troops stationed in South Korea and our regional allies,” Rep. John Conyers (D-IL), the sponsor of the House bill, said.

“President Trump’s provocative and escalatory rhetoric, with threats to unleash ‘fire and fury’ and ‘totally destroy’ North Korea, cannot be allowed to turn into reality,” Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), the sponsor of the Senate bill, said. “As long as President Trump has a Twitter account, we must ensure that he cannot start a war or launch a nuclear first strike without the explicit authorization of Congress.”

The fact that we’re still here, then, is not thanks to Trump, but despite him. Here’s to hoping that while America will be here next year, Trump certainly will not.
