You can count on Fox News to find the one Democrat willing to publicly defend President Trump on its airwaves. So out they trot Andrew Stein, the former Manhattan Borough President and former New York City Council President.
Those are pretty impressive credentials for someone of either party, but Stein was such a successful Democrat that he even was briefly a candidate for mayor of New York.
Stein joined the crew on President Trump’s favorite morning show (now that he and Joe Scarborough are no longer on friendly terms), Fox & Friends. The former urban politician went on and on about how his fellow Democrats are suffering from “the Trump Derangement System” which, while he probably meant to use the word “syndrome,” actually pretty accurately describes what the whole country is suffering from right now.
As Stein meant it, the term refers to the fact that most Democrats have not been able to accept the fact that Donald Trump was elected President, blithely ignoring the fact that, yes, the party that won the popular vote might have an issue with the win going to the other candidate.
Stein knew what network he was appearing on, so he parroted the same talking points that Trump himself so faithfully repeats on their behalf, including that the “deep state” is delegitimizing the President (as if Trump needed any help in doing what he manages to accomplish just fine on his own).
The former NY City Council President offered this advice to fellow Democrats:

“Democrats are making a big mistake by just ‘resisting,’ talking about impeachment. It’s nonsense. This President has one of the best records I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around a long time.”
Stein dedicated the remainder of his interview praising the President’s leadership on tax cuts and infrastructure, and berating Democrats for their lack of cooperation with Trump’s agenda. His obsequiousness was so over the top that one wanted to reach into his wallet and tear up his Democratic party registration on the spot.

That Fox News had to search long and hard to find a nominal Democrat with the views that Stein espouses is obvious. Stein has been out of politics since 1994, after a revision of the New York City charter eliminated his position in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that said that the way the city’s government was organized violated the principles of “one man, one vote.”
The principal reason that Sten never returned to politics, however, was his 2010 arrest and guilty plea for lying about his involvement in a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme.
Consider his Fox & Friends brown-nosing to be a transparent effort to get his old New York society pal Donald Trump to exercise some of his valuable clemency powers to clear his record, and you have a whole different perspective on why this particular Democrat is gung-ho on the Trump agenda.
Nice try Fox, but we ain’t buying it.
