President Trump’s love affair with the vapid sycophants at FOX & Friends and his interminable feud with the rest of the media outlets that have the nerve to do anything besides shower him in praise took a disturbing turn this morning when the President decided to coin a new slur: “hate shows.”

If there’s one thing Trump and the right-wing in general are capable of doing with disturbing efficiency, it’s appropriating the terminology of social justice and liberalism and turning it back on us.
“Fake news” was coined by liberals to describe the wild conspiracy theories and fabricated nonsense that is passed around right-wing social media circles – and now it has been appropriated to describe anything that the President doesn’t like.
It appears he is now attempting to do that with hate speech, calling the media “hate shows” for allegedly diving the nation against him by reporting the truth about how Trump and his coven of plutocratic ideologues are planning to loot this nation and leave the rest of us to fight over the scraps.

His characteristically unsubtle message – shower me with praise, or else – is a clear indication that not only are his autocratic impulses are growing stronger, but his incessant need for affirmation is as well.
The media needs to take this as a sign that they’re doing the right thing – and to keep on shining a light on to the president’s heinous plots.
