The dauntless California congresswoman, Democrat Maxine Waters, never backs down from a fight. Today was no exception.
The woman to whom millennials lovingly refer as “Auntie Maxine” took the podium at a rally in support of the Russia investigation and skewered Republicans for spinning “a false narrative,” conjuring up “outrageous scenarios to accuse Special Counsel Mueller of being biased.”

Waters’ remarks come in direct response to recent FOX News-bolstered attempts by Republicans to discredit Mueller and the FBI — a maneuver tantamount to obstruction of justice.
He was only hired as Special Counsel after Trump fired then-FBI chief James Comey when Comey refused to stop his investigation into now-convicted former Trump national security adviser Mike Flynn.
Mueller, the House, and the Senate are probing likely conspiracy between Trump’s and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circles to swing the 2016 presidential election away from Putin nemesis Hillary Clinton, in exchange for lifting sanctions for Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.
However, despite 17 intelligence agencies proving Russian interference into the election, Trump continues to deny the facts.
Even though he admitted Russian meddling shortly after taking office — even letting slip, “Next time we’ll win the old-fashioned way” — he has since reversed his rhetoric, calling the investigation a “witch hunt” and repeatedly attacking the FBI.
Many of the Republican lawmakers who are backing up Trump’s assaults on the rule of law have themselves received funding from political action committees whose coffers Russia has filled, thanks to the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision. So much for country before party.
Trump and his Republican Party may try to evade their inevitable fates.
However, with two former Trump officials pleading guilty to lying to the FBI and now cooperating with the Mueller investigation, and two more top officials — former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates — indicted for conspiracy against the U.S., Mueller’s investigation is narrowing in on Trump himself.
Republican attempts to put the prosecution on trial reveal how afraid they really are, like cornered animals lashing out in every direction.
Congressional stalwarts like Rep. Waters, and Senators Warner (D-VA) and Blumenthal (D-CT), won’t let up until Trump himself is behind bars.
And we, the people, should not let up either.
