Alabama’s Republican Secretary of State just put Roy Moore out of his delusional misery

If you are one of the suckers who just donated money to accused pedophile Roy Moore to pay for a recount of the vote in his high profile Senate race, you might want to ask for a refund.

While even President Trump has been forced to admit that Democrat Doug Jones will be the next Senator from Alabama, Moore has stubbornly refused to concede — just as he never admitted the veracity of the numerous women who charged him with child molestation and sexual misconduct.

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, a Republican and strong supporter of Moore, has just admitted that if you count every write-in, overseas, military, and provisional ballot, Jones will still win by about 1.5 percent of the vote.

On election night, Jones was ahead by over 20,000 votes. If you count all the mail-in and provisional ballots (those challenged), it would not affect the results of the election.

There were 366 overseas ballots returned and a total of 4,967 provisional ballots. Out of those provisional ballots, 2888 have been verified and will be counted.

The winning percentage is important because if the election result was within half of one percent, it would trigger a full recount paid for by the state.

Merrill says that it will not be that close, so the state won’t do a recount.

Merrill has also investigated and rejected Moore’s claims that there was election fraud.

Moore, meanwhile, has been fundraising to do his own recount at a cost of about $1 million even though his campaign is out of money. As of two days ago, he said he was only about $75,000 short of his goal.

Now that Merrill’s office has revealed that while the vote count may change slightly, it will not change significantly, it is clear that spending money on a recount would be as likely as expecting Moore to change his racist, anti-gay, anti-women’s-choice views.

Merrill is required to report the official final tally no sooner than Dec. 26 and no later than Jan. 2, 2018, so it is fair to guess Jones will not be seated in the Senate until the new year.

That is too late to help stop the outrageous giveaway to the rich in Trump’s tax scam but it will mean the balance in the Senate will be even closer, with 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats – opening the door to improved chances for Democrats to stop other Trump-Republican outrages in the future and take back Congress in 2018.

When Moore was a Supreme Court judge in Alabama he twice was removed from office on ethics charges after refusing to obey a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allows marriage among people of the same sex.

As Moore has a history of ignoring the U.S. and Alabama’s constitution, he may well continue to claim the election was stolen from him.

However, the reality is that justice was done in the election of Jones, who has a long record of upholding the law, guarding the rights of all people, and protecting minorities.

By refusing to concede, Moore is not only a sore loser and a proven pedophile but also must be judged mentally deficient.

Now if only he will just go away.
