Trump just asked the Supreme Court to decide a hugely controversial abortion case

Mere hours after a woman judge prevented the Trump administration from depriving one of our nation’s newest and most vulnerable residents of her constitutional right to choose, the Misogynist-in-Chief called yesterday for the Supreme Court to block yet another 17-year-old undocumented girl from having an abortion.

Brigitte Amiri of the ACLU, who is representing one of the girls, told Politico today:

‘Unfortunately, the Trump administration has shown no indication that they’ll abandon their cruel and dystopian crusade to block abortion access for some of the most marginalized people in our country. We’re prepared to keep fighting for as long as we need to.’

The federal judge, Obama appointee Tanya Chatkan, who restrained Trump’s own Justice Department from imposing theocratic law on an unaccompanied, undocumented minor, cited a “need to preserve [the teens’] constitutional right to decide whether to carry their pregnancies to term.”

However, Trump, who has called avoiding STDs while he was dodging the draft his “own personal Vietnam,” doubled down on his fight to deny pregnant minors the legal rights that the Supreme Court’s 1971 Roe v. Wade decision affords them.

The girls are staying in federally funded shelters for pregnant undocumented immigrants in states where minors do not need parental permission to acquire an abortion.  Their non-pregnant counterparts are forced to stay in even less desirable accommodations, detention centers where they are treated like criminals.

According to Politico:

Justice Department attorneys have stopped short of saying whether they believe foreigners who recently entered the U.S. illegally have a constitutional right to abortion. However, several conservative states have filed amicus briefs saying those immigrants lack such rights and two administration officials caught up in the fight are also making that argument through private lawyers.

The Justice Department that is supposed to uphold constitutional law is fighting the constitutional right to choose and taking their case to the highest court in the land, in an attempt to further erode reproductive rights for women, with the end goal presumably being reversing Roe v. Wade altogether.  Some states already force pregnant teens and women to undergo anti-abortion education.

Of course, the very Republicans who want to force these young girls to become mothers while they are still children themselves are in the process of passing a tax bill that takes away federal support for healthcare, child tax credits, and education (and also strives to erode choice), passing the revenue up the food chain to the 1% and major corporations.

Furthermore, the Republican National Committee just endorse and funded a credibly accused child molester, losing Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, as if to say, “You have to bear a child, but once you do, we don’t care what happens to them.”

The president has been caught on tape bragging about sexual assault and has been accused of doing exactly what he said he does by at least 19 women.  His misogyny stands naked for all to see.

Now he wants to impose “moral law” on girls fighting for a second chance at life.  Trump and his Republican Party embody hypocrisy.  We must vote them out of office in 2018 and 2020.  Our daughters need us to have their backs.
