George Conway just torched Trump for attacking his marriage in brutal response

The strange, ongoing war of words between Donald Trump and George Conway, the husband of presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway, escalated again today. It’s a saga that’s been unfolding for some time now, as Mr. Conway has become one of the most outspoken critics of Trump and his disastrous administration even as his wife remains one of the most vocal Trump loyalists.

In recent days, Mr. Conway has been questioning the mental health of the president, alleging that he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder which, to be fair, seems like a reasonable assessment given Trump’s consistently disturbing ego-driven behavior. The president clearly didn’t appreciate Conway’s words and woke up today to launch a pathetic Twitter attack on him.

Trump claimed that Mr. Conway is “VERY jealous” of his wife and angry that he wasn’t given a position inside the administration, something that Conway clearly doesn’t want given his constant, brutal criticisms of that very administration. Trump added that Conway is a “stone cold LOSER” as well as a “husband from hell.” The latter is stunningly hypocritical coming from Trump, who was literally accused of raping one of his former wives.

Conway responded quickly by pointing out that the president’s unhinged defensive tweet simply reinforces his prior claim that he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. Conway rammed the point home by tweeting out the definition of said disorder.

Conway wasn’t quite done yet, and decided to address Trump’s attempt to demean him by referring to him as “Mr. Kellyanne Conway.” Of course, only a man as misogynistic as Trump would see such a nickname as innately offensive. Conway correctly identified the attack as “extremely juvenile and boorish” before getting in a shot about not wanting to be called “Individual-[ ].” “Individual I” is the name by which Trump is referred to in the documents for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Targeting Trump’s ongoing legal problems is a surefire way to get under his infamously thin skin and Conway clearly has a knack for zeroing in on the things that infuriate the president the most.

While Conway should be commended for standing up to the president’s disgusting attack, it’s difficult to tell how sincere any of this really is. After all, this man still goes home every night to his wife, one the president’s most vile enablers. If Conway really thinks Trump is as terrible as he says, how can he in good conscience carry on a relationship with a woman helping to spread his evil?

One can’t rule out the possibility that the Conways are playing both sides in the hopes that when the dust settles and the administration implodes they’ll be able to move in whichever direction the political wind is blowing. Hopefully, that’s not the case.
