As the public fury over the Trump administration’s appalling policy of separating immigrant parents from their children grows into a firestorm of outrage, President Trump dispatched his wife to the border on Thursday for a meet-and-greet with both the immigrant children and to congratulate their concentration camp wardens for their work.
.@kwelkernbc on @FLOTUS at the border: This is something that has touched her personally as a mother. This is her first extensive trip – not just as political ambassador but to do damage control.

But the trip’s function as a nothing but a despicable attempt to whitewash the horrors of the Trump administration’s policies and a propaganda opportunity for the press to fawn over was made obvious when the First Lady went to board her flight to Texas – wearing a jacket that literally announces that she doesn’t care about the kids she’s about to visit.

Throughout the entire crisis, both the First Lady and the First Daughter have remained silent and complicit, sequestered away from the world with their own children while the family patriarch and his coven of racist ghouls gleefully scattered nearly two thousand immigrant children across the country in facilities that are unequipped and unprepared to handle kids who have endured so much trauma.
For her to wear a garment that says “I really don’t care” is a mind-blowingly cruel and callous display that is made all the more vindictive by the fact that this had to be an intentional choice – one simply doesn’t pick that jacket out of a closet by accident, especially on a trip of such a nature.
The fact that she’s an immigrant herself just adds heinous insult to tremendous injury.
