Trump just vowed to shut down his own government in an unhinged, delusional rant

President Donald “Deals” Trump mystified both Democrats and Republicans this afternoon when he declared that he would “love” to see a second government shutdown if the Democrats refuse to give him what he wants during the upcoming negotiations over Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

As the DACA protections for 800,000 undocumented Americans are set to expire on March 5th, the spineless Senate Democrats appear to have backed off of their demands that government funding be tied to a clean DACA bill, more worried about their poll numbers instead of the well-being of nearly a million people they swore to protect.

But on the other side of the aisle, Trump isn’t backing down from his demands for funding for his border wall, daring the Democrats to call his bluff in a series of remarks on Tuesday.

“We’ll do a shutdown and it’s worth it for our country. I’d love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this stuff taken care of. If we have to shut it down because the Democrats don’t want safety and, unrelated but still related, they don’t want to take care of our military, then shut it down. We’ll go with another shutdown.

His remarks reveal that Trump has absolutely no idea what’s actually going on with the budget negotiations, which no longer includes any discussion of immigration, DACA, or a border wall, as the Democrats have decided it’s more important to fruitlessly discard their only leverage in order to pat themselves on the back for engaging in civility politics and maintain the perception that they’re attempting to “compromise” instead of actually showing any political backbone or show that they’re willing to actually go to bat for anything that they ostensibly care about.

Trump’s bullying remarks prove that he’s willing to shut down his own government and will blame the Democrats anyway – which is why they need to play hardball and use this opportunity to secure a DACA deal. 800,000 people are depending on it.
